Baghdad: US Special Envoy to Iraq, Mark Savaya, congratulated the Iraqi people on Thursday on the success of their parliamentary elections, noting that the Iraqi people have once again demonstrated their commitment to freedom and the rule of law. He affirmed the United States’ support for Iraq, its sovereignty, and its reform efforts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement, Savaya said, “I congratulate the Iraqi people on the success of their parliamentary elections. I also commend the efforts of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and his government for ensuring the elections were held on time and smoothly. This is clear evidence that Iraq is on the path to prosperity and sovereignty.”

He added, “The Iraqi people have once again demonstrated their commitment to freedom, the rule of law, and building strong state institutions.”

Safaya affirmed that “the United States remains strongly committed to supporting Iraq, its sovereignty, and its reform efforts.”

He expressed his anticipation of “working with the next government to deepen our strategic partnership in the areas of security, energy, and development, and to contribute to building a stable and prosperous future for all Iraqis.”
