Search Operations Conclude at Bir Alu Antar Cemetery in Nineveh

Nineveh: An official source announced the completion of excavation and exhumation operations at the mass grave known as ‘Bir Alu Antar,’ located near Tal Afar, west of Mosul.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Nineveh Police source stated that teams from the Directorate for Mass Graves Affairs and Protection, in cooperation with the UN investigative team (UNITAD) and the Department of Forensic Medicine, concluded operations that lasted for nearly three months, during which 158 complete bodies and 39 human remains were recovered. All remains were transferred to the Department of Forensic Medicine in Baghdad for identification.

The source added that the site, also known as the ‘Alu Antar Pit,’ was identified based on photographic archives from 2017 documenting crimes committed by the ISIS terrorist organization in the area. He pointed out that the teams faced major challenges during the excavation due to the complex nature of the soil, the presence of dangerous reptiles, and the difficult access to the site.

The grave stands as one of the painful testimonies to the mass atrocities committed by the ISIS terrorist organization against civilians in Nineveh Province.
