Abu dhabi: The New York Times reported that the second round of negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday in Abu Dhabi and involve representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, has been postponed for several days.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the newspaper did not specify the reason for the delay but noted that the decision followed talks held on Saturday in Miami, Florida, between Kirill Dmitriev, Special Envoy of the Russian President, and Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of the U.S. President.
Earlier on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives would be held in Abu Dhabi on February 4 and 5. The UAE capital had previously hosted the first round of trilateral security consultations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States on January 23, followed by bilateral meetings on January 24.
The parties discussed outstanding issues related to the U.S. peace plan during closed-door sessions. On January 28, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced plans to resume negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement in Abu Dhabi on February 1. According to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Sunday’s meeting was initially planned as a bilateral session between Russia and Ukraine, with the possibility of U.S. participation.
