A security source announced the formation of a security team to track down antiquities smuggling mafias in Diyala Governorate.

The source told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that a security team has been formed to pursue antiquities smuggling networks and to carry out qualitative operations to arrest their members, pointing out that / 3 / smuggling networks were dismantled in qualitative ambushes during the past months.

He added that security measures have been taken in the vicinity of more than 30 archaeological sites dating back to ancient historical periods, spread on the outskirts of Baquba, the center of Diyala Governorate.
