Beirut: Security cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon has resulted in the takedown of the largest Captagon factory in the Middle East. A statement by the Ministry of Interior stated that the close security and intelligence cooperation between the Iraqi Ministry of Interior/General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs and the Lebanese General Directorate of State Security resulted in a qualitative achievement represented by the discovery and dismantling of one of the largest Captagon manufacturing factories in the Bekaa Valley region of Lebanon.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement explained that this achievement came on the basis of accurate information provided by Iraqi agencies to their Lebanese counterparts, enabling the Lebanese army in mid-July 2025 to carry out a large-scale operation that resulted in the seizure of the factory and the thwarting of large quantities of narcotic substances intended for manufacturing and distribution, in a blow described as the strongest against Captagon networks in the Middle East.

The Lebanese General Directorate of State Security confirmed, in an official letter addressed to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, that this intelligence cooperation reflects the strength of the relationship between the two brotherly countries, and embodies Iraq’s pioneering role in confronting cross-border threats, foremost among which is the scourge of drugs, which is considered the greatest threat to Arab societal security.
