Baghdad: The UN Security Council called on its 193 member states to use all possible means to resolve disputes peacefully, at a time when the UN Secretary-General said this “has become more urgent than ever,” citing “horrific scenes in Gaza” and conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti, and Myanmar.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the 15-member council voted unanimously for a resolution drafted by Pakistan. In calling for intensified efforts toward global peace, Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres told the council: “Around the world, we are witnessing a complete disregard, if not outright violation, of international law” and the UN Charter.

He added that this is happening at a time of widening geopolitical divisions and increasing conflicts, especially in Gaza, where “hunger is knocking on all doors.” Guterres stressed that “hunger and displacement have reached record levels” in global conflicts, and that security is increasingly out of reach due to terrorism, violent extremism, and cross-border crime.
