Baghdad: Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Council, recently received Alicia Rico P©rez del Pulgar, the Spanish ambassador to Iraq, in a meeting where the ambassador conveyed her congratulations on Iraq’s successful elections. She praised the maturity and public awareness demonstrated by the democratic process in Iraq.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions between Hamoudi and the ambassador centered on the latest political developments, the progress of fulfilling constitutional requirements, and the prospects for coordinating positions and cooperation between Iraq and Spain. Sheikh Hamoudi stated that Iraq is entering a new phase of political and security stability following the elections, and is working towards building a robust state with institutions based on a national vision capable of addressing both internal and external challenges.
Sheikh Hamoudi expressed his desire for increased involvement from Spain and its European partners in supporting development initiatives and exploring investment opportunities in Iraq. He acknowledged Spain’s humanitarian efforts towards Gaza, which he believes enhances its reputation in Iraq and the Arab world.
The ambassador lauded Sheikh Hamoudi’s political contributions, referring to him as “the spiritual father of the constitution,” and emphasized Madrid’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Iraq. She highlighted the importance of Iraq as a pillar of stability in the region and expressed Spain’s interest in diversifying areas of cooperation.
