Baghdad: A shop owner in Baghdad's Al-Haraj Market has been arrested following the discovery of thousands of illegal weapons and smoke grenades in his possession. The operation resulted in the seizure of 3,428 pieces of white weapons, primarily knives, and 39 smoke grenades, which are banned under national regulations. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrest was announced by Chief of Police, Legal Officer Fattah Al-Khafaji. The raid and subsequent arrest were conducted as part of a broader national initiative to regulate weapons and ensure that their possession is limited to state authorities. The shop has since been closed, and legal proceedings are underway. The shop owner has been charged under Article 240 of the Penal Code, which addresses illegal possession of weapons, and has been referred to the competent courts for further action. The case underscores ongoing efforts by Iraqi authorities to curb the illegal arms trade and enhance public safety.
