Baghdad: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received the Egyptian national football team players and their technical and administrative staff in El Alamein today, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Youth and Sports Gawhar Nabil, and President of the Egyptian Football Association Hani Abu Rida.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that President Sisi awarded the national team players and members of the technical and administrative staff the Cup of Pride and Honor and commemorative medals. This recognition was given due to their heroic performance and high level of skill during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, along with their determination, perseverance, and discipline. A commemorative photo was taken of the President with the players and the technical and administrative staff.
The spokesperson explained that President Sisi addressed the national team players and staff, welcoming them and expressing his pride and appreciation for the team's honorable performance. He emphasized that this praise reflects the general sentiment of all those who followed the national team's matches, including Egyptians, people in Arab countries, Egyptian and Arab communities abroad, and indeed, people worldwide.
President El-Sisi praised the high values displayed by the team, reflecting the authenticity of the Egyptian people. He emphasized that their achievement was a commendable effort and a testament to their great dedication to Egypt. He pointed out that sports are not just about winning and losing, but more importantly, the national team earned the respect of the people, who appreciated their performance more than the victory itself.
