Mosul: Security forces arrested six individuals belonging to a gang specializing in extortion and theft operations in the right side of Mosul.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrest came after receiving information about the defendants’ involvement in threatening a number of residents and blackmailing them with large sums of money in exchange for sparing them or their property. A well-planned ambush was set up in coordination with the Military Intelligence Service, resulting in the arrest of all members of the gang in a residential neighborhood without any resistance. They were found in their possession of several mobile phones containing threatening messages and digital evidence documenting their involvement in several crimes.

The source explained that initial investigations revealed that the gang was operating in densely populated areas, exploiting the weakness of some security services. He indicated that the defendants will be referred to the competent judicial authorities after the completion of legal procedures against them.
