Six-Month Prison Sentence for Four Convicted of Purchasing Electoral Cards


Adhamiya: The Adhamiya Misdemeanor Court has handed down a six-month prison sentence to four individuals convicted of purchasing electoral cards. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council released a statement detailing that the sentence was issued under Article 32/Second of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Elections Law No. 9 of 2020. The ruling also referenced Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code, which pertain to participation in criminal activities, and Article 131, which provides guidance on judicial procedures.



The conviction and sentencing underscore the judiciary’s commitment to upholding election laws and deterring illegal activities that could undermine democratic processes.
