Baghdad: Ambassador Christian Skog, the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Iraq, presented his credentials today, Wednesday, to Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, Skog expressed his honor in joining UNICEF Iraq, emphasizing his commitment to working closely with the Government of Iraq, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to promote children’s rights and build a better future for all children across the country.

In a statement, UNICEF highlighted Skog’s extensive experience of over 30 years in international development, humanitarian response, and human rights. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to improving the well-being of children and has led UNICEF programs in complex contexts through strategic partnerships with governments, civil society, and development partners.

Skog previously held leadership roles as UNICEF Representative in Sri Lanka (2021-2025), Mexico (2016-2021), Guatemala (2012-2016), and Mauritania (2007-2011). He also served as Deputy Representative in Haiti (2005-2007). Earlier in his career, he was UNICEF’s principal liaison to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee.
