Sons of Late Iranian Supreme Leader Attend Funeral in Tehran

Tehran: American media outlets reported the presence of three sons of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at his funeral in Tehran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the New York Post stated that three of Khamenei's sons prayed beside his coffin and those of four other family members on Sunday, but Mojtaba, his son who succeeded him as Supreme Leader, was not present. State television showed Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud Khamenei praying behind the coffins displayed in the vast courtyard of the Grand Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran.

A day after the body was displayed indoors for visits by senior Iranian leaders and foreign officials, Ayatollah Khamenei's coffin was displayed outdoors on Saturday under a glass case, alongside the coffins of his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and 14-month-old granddaughter.

US President Donald Trump told the Axios news website that peace talks had been suspended for a week due to the events surrounding the funeral. On Sunday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf prayed behind the coffins. Masoud Khamenei was seen weeping and wiping his tears with a keffiyeh-the square scarf that symbolizes revolutionary mobilization principles and solidarity with the Palestinians-as the imam recited the funeral prayers.
