Basra: The Southern Region Businesswomen’s Association convened with the Women’s Advisory Team, which supports the local government in Basra, to explore strategies for enhancing the role of women in serving the Basra community. This meeting aimed to empower women and increase their participation in local governance and decision-making processes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Women’s Advisory Team consists of a diverse group of academics, experts, activists, and representatives from governmental and civil society organizations. Their role is to provide the local government with opinions and advice on matters concerning women, family, and sustainable development within the region.

During the meeting, Wafika Al-Mu’min, the president of the Southern Region Businesswomen’s Association, stressed the necessity of developing a clear and actionable strategy to empower women. She highlighted the importance of initiatives and proposals that support local policies and emphasized that empowering women economically and socially can foster productive partnerships with governmental bodies, the private sector, and local and international organizations. Such empowerment is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
