Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani hosted the State Administration Coalition’s periodic meeting this evening, Sunday, attended by President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, Speaker of Parliament Haibat Hamad al-Halbousi, and leaders of the political blocs and movements within the coalition.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting discussed a variety of strategic issues at local, regional, and international levels. The Coalition expressed its strong support for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, currently hosted by the Sultanate of Oman. It called for serious dialogue and prioritizing negotiation options to avoid war, which exacerbates existing humanitarian and economic crises globally.
The Coalition also commended efforts by Arab and Islamic countries to prevent war, while firmly rejecting threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran, highlighting that such threats violate international norms and conventions. The importance of regulating statements, media discourse, and actions inconsistent with Iraq’s interests was stressed.
The attendees condemned a recent terrorist attack targeting worshippers in Islamabad, Pakistan, affirming Iraq’s solidarity with Pakistan in combating extremism. The need for coordinated international efforts to eradicate terrorism was emphasized.
The meeting reviewed Iraq’s financial situation, advocating support for essential government measures to strengthen strategic solutions. Economic reforms aimed at controlling border crossings, reducing tax and customs evasion, and protecting local products were highlighted as vital. The coalition discussed the need for reform plans to diversify income sources beyond oil dependency.
Additionally, the issue of ISIS prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq was examined. The coalition supported Iraq’s legal and judicial actions regarding these prisoners and urged the international community to support Iraq. Countries whose nationals are among these prisoners were called upon to take custody and bring them to justice.
