Baghdad: The Representative of the State of Law Coalition, Thaer Makhif Al-Jubouri, has confirmed the possibility of re-voting on contentious laws in Parliament.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Jubouri expressed expectations that the Federal Supreme Court will accept appeals filed by some members of the Council of Representatives. These appeals challenge the passage of the general amnesty, personal status, and return of real estate laws in a single legislative package. The court may require Parliament to vote on each law separately.

He highlighted the potential for these laws to be approved again, each on its own, following a political agreement among the parliamentary blocs. The laws would need to be re-studied in detail and progressed according to political agreements and parliamentary majority, though this process will require some time.

It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives had voted on these draft laws during its session on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The session included votes on the draft Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959, the draft law to return real estate to its owners affected by certain Revolutionary Command Council decisions, and the draft law to amend the second amendment to the General Amnesty Law No. 27 of 2016.
