Baghdad: State of Law Coalition MP Thaer Mukhif al-Jubouri held the Parliament Presidency responsible for the failure to hold its sessions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Jubouri stated that “Parliament is paralyzed due to political disagreements among blocs over the approval of some controversial laws, the latest of which are the laws on the rights of red card holders and compensation for victims of the former regime, without Parliament taking a decisive decision regarding holding sessions.”

He further added that the “Parliament Presidency should have imposed large fines, up to 5 million dinars, on every MP who does not attend sessions, to encourage the attendance of MPs in large numbers to pass important laws before the end of Parliament’s term and before the upcoming elections.”

Al-Jubouri also pointed out that preparations for the upcoming elections by the majority of House of Representatives members are another reason for their absence from Parliament sessions.
