Taipei: A strong earthquake struck Yilan County, northeast of the Taiwanese capital, on Wednesday, causing strong tremors throughout Taipei. Taiwan’s Meteorological Administration reported that the 5.8-magnitude earthquake did not result in any immediate reports of damage.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Central Meteorological Administration noted that the earthquake occurred at 9:53 a.m. local time, with its epicenter approximately 15.5 kilometers southeast of Suao Township in Yilan County. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 72.4 kilometers.

In light of the seismic activity, the Central Meteorological Administration issued a disaster prevention alert for Yilan County, advising residents to exercise caution following the earthquake.

Authorities are currently working to assess the impact, with initial reports yet to confirm any significant damage or injuries. Residents in Taipei reported feeling strong tremors due to the earthquake.
