Supreme Religious Authority Offers Condolences on Pope Francis’ Passing


Najaf: The Office of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, has expressed condolences following the death of Pope Francis. The statement highlighted Pope Francis’ significant spiritual influence and the widespread respect he commanded due to his role in promoting peace and tolerance globally.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the condolence message, addressed to His Beatitude Cardinal Pietro Parolin, emphasized the Pope’s commitment to peace and solidarity with the oppressed. It recalled the historic meeting between Pope Francis and Sayyid Ali al-Sistani in Najaf, which underscored faith in God and adherence to moral values as essential in addressing humanity’s challenges.



The message further highlighted the shared commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, rejecting violence, and fostering harmony based on mutual respect. The Office extended its sympathy to Catholics worldwide, wishing them patience and solace, and prayed for God’s blessings of peace for all humanity.
