Baghdad: The Supreme Security Committee for the 2025 Parliamentary Elections has declared its complete readiness to facilitate a smooth electoral process, ensuring a secure environment conducive to the success of this key national event.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Committee's Chairman and Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhamdawi, emphasized the Committee's efforts in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, parliamentary committees, the Supreme Judicial Council, and the Integrity Commission. These coordinated efforts aim to guarantee transparent and fair elections, maintaining a level playing field for all candidates while preventing hate speech and extremism, thus safeguarding citizens and national interests.
Al-Muhamdawi further explained that the Supreme Security Committee is actively conducting field operations to monitor campaign violations and irregularities, such as incitement, through ongoing cooperation with the Electoral Commission. Legal actions will be coordinated with the Supreme Judicial Council to address these issues.
He highlighted that the Committee has conducted field practices as part of the final election preparations and is continuously monitoring the security landscape to resolve any challenges that could impede the electoral security plan. The Committee's responsibilities are confined to field security, while the Electoral Commission independently handles the technical and administrative aspects of the elections.
Additionally, Al-Muhamdawi assured that there will be no curfew or road closures on election day, following directives from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Security personnel will be prohibited from entering polling stations. The Committee has also devised a strategy to combat rumors and misinformation, prohibiting security personnel from accompanying candidates and ensuring the removal of election campaign materials near polling centers in collaboration with the Electoral Commission.
