Basra: A suspect was arrested for possessing unauthorized contractual transactions for state-owned lands in Basra. The Federal Integrity Commission revealed that the individual, a surveyor at the Basra Agriculture Directorate, was caught with illicit applications related to state-owned agricultural land.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a team from the Basra Investigation Directorate apprehended the surveyor at the Basra and Zubair Agriculture Directorates. The suspect was found with original applications and transactions from citizens attempting to illegally secure contracts for hundreds of dunams of state-owned agricultural land.

The Commission highlighted that the land involved in these transactions is valued at five billion dinars. The documents discovered in the suspect’s residence belonged to citizens with whom he had no legal affiliations. Additionally, the team confiscated money, gold jewelry, electronic payment cards, and original land rental transactions. Computers from the Agriculture Directorate, a seal from a private engineering firm, CDs with agricultural plot information, original drawings, and hard drives with data on agricultural land were also found at the suspect’s home.

The Commission further mentioned that a formal seizure report was compiled under Article 307 of the Penal Code. The report, along with the suspect and the seized items, was submitted to the judge of the Integrity and Money Laundering Investigation Court in Basra for further legal proceedings and to decide the suspect’s fate.
