Baqubah: Diyala Anti-Crime Squads have successfully apprehended a suspect accused of a series of shop robberies in Baqubah, the provincial capital. The arrest was made during an operation in the Al-Wathba area, where the suspect was caught in the act with a stolen sum of money.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Brigadier General Haitham Al-Shammari, Director of Media for the Diyala Police, stated that the suspect was detained during a carefully executed ambush following intelligence gathering and close monitoring. The suspect’s apprehension was part of a coordinated effort to address the string of robberies affecting local businesses.
The suspect reportedly confessed to committing six other shop robberies in Baqubah during the initial investigations. Following these admissions, the suspect was presented before an investigating judge. The judge ordered the suspect’s detention under the provisions of Article (443) of the Penal Code, which deals with theft and related offenses.
