BAGHDAD: In a concerted effort to curb illegal activities related to oil derivatives, Iraqi authorities have arrested five suspects and seized five vehicles across the governorates of Kirkuk, Nineveh, and Salah al-Din. The arrests and seizures were carried out by the Energy Police Directorate, which is intensifying its operations against smuggling activities. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Energy Police Directorate released a statement detailing the operations conducted by the First and Second Energy Police Brigades. The statement reported that the suspects were apprehended for violations related to the smuggling of oil derivatives. The vehicles, which were allegedly prepared for smuggling, have been confiscated as part of the enforcement actions. The suspects have been placed in detention, and the seized items are being held as evidence while legal procedures are completed, following the mandates of Law No. 41 of 2008, which addresses the smuggling of oil and its derivatives. The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to enforce regulations and prevent the illegal trade of oil products in Iraq, a country heavily reliant on its oil industry for economic stability.
