Damascus: In the first official Syrian comment on the US airstrikes targeting ISIS positions, Damascus affirmed its "steadfast commitment to fighting ISIS and ensuring that it has no safe havens in Syrian territory."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, following the US announcement of bombing approximately 70 ISIS targets, the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that "Syria will continue to intensify military operations against the organization in all areas it threatens."
Syria called on the United States and member states of the international coalition to "join in supporting the Republic's efforts in combating terrorism, which will contribute to protecting civilians and restoring security and stability in the region."
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the launch of a military operation against ISIS in Syria in response to an attack that killed three Americans in Palmyra a few days prior.
"U.S. forces have begun Operation Hawkeye in Syria to eliminate ISIS fighters, infrastructure, and weapons storage sites, in direct response to the attack on U.S. forces on December 13," Hegseth said in a post on the X platform.
