Damascus: Syrian President for the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, stressed that the recent events in Sweida province marked a dangerous turning point, and that the violent clashes among these groups almost got out of control had it not been for the Syrian state’s intervention to calm the situation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a press statement, al-Sharaa said: “We have received international calls to intervene in what is happening in Sweida and restore security to the country.” He pointed out that the Israeli intervention has re-escalated tensions in Sweida, following the blatant bombing of the south and Damascus.

He stressed that the Syrian state alone is capable of preserving its prestige and sovereignty throughout all Syrian territory.

Al-Sharaa praised the role of the United States in affirming its support for Syria and its unity, and affirming its support for Syria in these difficult circumstances.

He explained that the European Union, Russia, and China have taken strong positions in rejecting the Israeli bombing and repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty. Al-Sharaa called on everyone to understand that this moment requires complete unity in order to overcome what we are all going through and preserve our country and our land.
