Washington: US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barak announced on Saturday that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will pay an official visit to Washington, D.C., this month.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the visit comes about two months after al-Sharaa’s trip to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly meetings, during which he met with US officials. This will be the first visit by a Syrian president to the White House in more than two decades, giving it exceptional importance in terms of bilateral relations and the future of Syria’s role in the region.
