Texas: Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that at least 161 people remain missing after the devastating floods that struck the southern US state, killing 109 people. “In Kerr County alone, there are 161 people missing,” Abbott said during a press conference, noting that this number is based on the number of people reported missing by friends, relatives, or neighbors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, four days after flash floods swept through several counties across the state, some in the middle of the night, hopes of finding survivors have faded, while the governor warned that the number of missing could rise as the arduous search continues. Abbott said, “It’s very likely that more will be added to this list” of people missing in the disaster.

He added that as of Tuesday evening, five campers and one counselor were still missing, along with another child not associated with the camp. “There is nothing more important in our hearts and minds than the people of this community, especially those who are still missing,” the governor continued.

Kerr County alone recorded 94 deaths, while at least 15 others were reported in other counties across the state. Among the victims were 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, a girls’ summer camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River, which had approximately 750 attendees.

The search continues, involving helicopters, drones, and sniffer dog teams, to locate additional victims.
