Najaf: The Holy Shrine of Imam Ali has reported that five million pilgrims and mourners descended upon Najaf to honor the anniversary of the death of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This substantial gathering underscores the spiritual significance of the event for Muslims around the world.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Najaf Governor Youssef Kanawi highlighted the success of the pilgrimage during a joint press conference at the holy shrine. He was accompanied by the head of the provincial council, security leaders, and directors of service departments. Governor Kanawi emphasized that joint coordination among various entities was crucial in managing the massive influx of visitors.

Haider Al-Issawi, a member of the Holy Shrine’s board of directors, provided further insights into the efforts undertaken to accommodate the pilgrims. He noted that over 300 mourning processions operated in the city’s outskirts, with an additional 500 processions in the Old City. The event was supported by 2,500 volunteers who helped distribute more than 250,000 meals and 9 million liters of water to the visitors, ensuring that their needs were met throughout the commemoration.
