Istanbul The death toll from the earthquake that struck at dawn today in seven states in southern Turkey has risen to more than 100 dead and more than 500 injured.

The Turkish TRT channel quoted official sources as saying that the number of victims is constantly increasing, that hundreds of rescue teams have gone to the stricken areas, that the Turkish Minister of Interior is supervising the rescue operations, that hundreds of people trapped under the rubble are still stranded, and that hospitals in the southern Turkish states are crowded with the injured.
