Luxembourg: The European Union praised Iraq's constructive diplomatic role in calming the situation in the Middle East and affirmed its continued support for this process.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a joint statement issued by Iraq and the European Union at the conclusion of the fourth meeting of the Ministerial Cooperation Council in Luxembourg, stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: "The two sides discussed the priorities of bilateral relations, most notably migration, trade, democracy, human rights, development cooperation, and energy, stressing their commitment to continuing constructive dialogue on all issues of common interest."
The statement highlighted the European Union's appreciation for Iraq's diplomatic efforts to maintain stability in the Middle East and reiterated its support for Baghdad's initiatives in this regard.
The statement also acknowledged Iraq's progress in achieving internal stability and its preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for November 11, 2025, as a significant step towards reinforcing its democratic process.
Furthermore, the European Union reiterated its commitment to assist Iraq in transitioning from a focus on security recovery to economic and investment recovery. It also recognized the Iraqi government's efforts to rehabilitate and repatriate its citizens detained in camps in northeastern Syria.
