The IFJ Prosecutes Israel In The International Criminal Courts

Baghdad The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) announced its cooperation with prominent human rights lawyers at the International Criminal Court to prosecute Israel for its systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists.

The IFJ stated in a statement published on its website: “Legal memoranda will be submitted to the International Criminal Court, revealing strong reasons for concluding that Israel has systematically targeted journalists working in Palestine, and failed to investigate the killing of media workers, which amounts to war crimes.” .

The IFJ, which works with the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate PJS and the International Center for Justice for Palestinians ICJP, indicated that it had hired prominent human rights lawyers from the British law firm Bindmans and Doughty Street Chambers to submit the complaint to the International Criminal Court.

It stated: “The complaint, which will be submitted to the court, details the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists on behalf of four victims whose names have been mentioned, they are Ahmed Abu Hussein, Yasser Murtaja, Moaz Armaneh, and Nidal Eshtayet, who were martyred or maimed by Israeli snipers while covering the demonstrations in Gaza, although they were all wearing clearly marked vests when they were fired upon.”

The complaint also includes the targeting of media outlets and the bombing of Al-Shorouk and Al-Jawhara towers in Gaza City last May.

In its statement, the IFJ added that it had repeatedly condemned the deliberate targeting of journalists and media facilities by Israel, where at least 46 Palestinian journalists have been martyred since 2000, and none of the killers has been held accountable.
