Baghdad: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani called on the federal government in Baghdad to ensure the region’s full share of the budget in the 2027 federal budget law through direct coordination and cooperation with Erbil, deeming the current discussions between technical committees “insufficient.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani emphasized the importance of preparing the draft budget law in coordination with the Kurdistan Region. He urged Baghdad to approach this matter with seriousness, highlighting that the current level of discussion between technical committees from both sides is not adequate.
Barzani stressed the need for the region’s full budget share to be secured through coordination between the relevant official institutions and departments in Kurdistan and the federal government. This effort is in preparation for the budget’s submission to Parliament.
On internal political matters, President Barzani noted that efforts are ongoing to assist Kurdish political parties in reaching positive outcomes. He mentioned that meetings between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan are progressing, expressing hope that these dialogues will lead to agreements that benefit Kurdistan and its people.
