Baghdad: The Communications and Media Commission (CMC) announced the launch of a nationwide awareness campaign on Wednesday aimed at combating the rising issue of cyber extortion. This initiative seeks to protect users and maintain social stability. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the CMC's board convened for a regular session led by Bassem Salem to deliberate on various proposals and projects related to the regulation of the media and telecommunications sectors. During the meeting, the board emphasized the need for media institutions to meet their technical and legal requirements concerning social security, urging compliance with the Commission's regulations to ensure a properly governed media environment in accordance with current standards. The session also addressed updates to the Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking framework, intending to keep pace with swift technological advancements and enhance regulatory procedures in line with the latest international benchmarks. Additionally, the bo ard evaluated the progress of previously implemented decisions, underscoring the significance of continuous oversight and the development of institutional capabilities to bolster regulatory performance.
