The Meeting Of The Presidency Of Kurdistan Region With The Kurdish Political Forces Ended Without Conclusive Results

Baghdad The meeting of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region ended today, Wednesday, with the political parties, in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, in Erbil, without conclusive results.

A statement by the Presidency of the Region stated that: “Under the supervision of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, a meeting of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region was held today, Wednesday (August 10, 2022), with the Kurdish political parties to discuss the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan region “.

It added, “The meeting came out with two recommendations, the first is to hold the last meeting to resolve all issues related to the elections and solve the problems that obstruct the process, early next September, and the second is to continue the presidency of the Kurdistan region and the political parties, with the help of a specialized team from UNAMI, its talks and preparations until that date.”

The statement indicated that Plasschaert stressed, in a speech at the meeting, the importance of the parties reaching an understanding on the issue of the elections and setting the date for holding them, and expressed the full support of the United Nations for the success of the process, and stressed the need to reach a result as soon as possible, because there is not much time available.
