Basra: Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, visited the DS2 station in the Majnoon oil field. He was accompanied by members of the Parliament’s Strategic Planning Committee, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Bassem Mohammed Khudair, and the Director General of Basra Oil Company, Bassem Abdul Karim Nasser, along with several directors of oil agencies and fields.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Oil Company issued a statement highlighting that the Minister was briefed on the implementation phases of the vital project during his visit. The project, which commenced in 2018 under the supervision of Basra Oil Company, has now achieved over 85% completion.

The Minister confirmed that the DS2 station in the Majnoon oil field is expected to be completed by the end of this year. This development is projected to boost the field’s production capacity to 400,000 barrels per day. However, this potential increase in production remains subject to OPEC and Iraq’s quota, which currently limits output to 120,000 barrels per day.

He emphasized the significance of the station’s complementary projects, particularly the integration of wet oil units designed to manage oil with high reservoir water content. This initiative aims to enhance production efficiency and ensure sustainability.

The Majnoon field is a critical contributor to the gas projects under the Total contract. The DS2 station will facilitate gas collection, which will be transported to the Artawi site for processing. This effort aligns with the government’s strategy to optimize the use of associated gas, converting it into energy that bolsters the national economy.
