Baghdad: The National Security Council held its ninth session of 2025 today, chaired by National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji, with the attendance of council members. The session focused on several strategic security agreements and collaborations involving Iraq and its neighboring countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the council discussed the agenda items and made necessary decisions and recommendations. One of the primary topics was the draft memorandum of understanding on maritime security cooperation and coordination between the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense. This draft was submitted by a specialized committee and resulted in appropriate recommendations from the council.

During the session, Al-Araji highlighted the Prime Minister’s directives, underscoring the importance of establishing balanced, transparent, and honest relations, particularly with neighboring countries like Kuwait. He emphasized the ongoing cooperation and coordination between Iraq and Kuwait on mutual interests and security matters, stating that the stability and security of both nations are interconnected, and efforts are continually made to ensure regional security and stability.

Additionally, the council reviewed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in combating violent extremism between the National Security Advisory/National Committee for Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism and the British Foreign Office and Northern Ireland. An appropriate decision regarding this was also made during the session.
