The Pentagon announces a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine

Baghdad The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced an additional $400 million in military aid to Ukraine, including tanks and missiles, bringing the value of US aid to Kiev to more than $18.5 billion.

“The new US military aid package to Ukraine includes 45 refurbished T-72 tanks with advanced optics, communications and armor,” said Pentagon Spokeswoman Sabrina Singh.

It added that part of the tanks will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of this month, and deliveries are expected to be completed in 2023.

Singh revealed that the United States is modernizing Soviet-made tanks and handing them over to Ukrainian forces with the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

New US aid to Ukraine includes 250 M1117 armored personnel carriers, 40 armored boats, and 1,100 Phoenix Ghost drones.

The new package also includes financing the renewal of HAWK air defense missiles for inclusion in future presidential cloud packages.

Under the aid, the United States will provide secure, tactical communications and surveillance systems to Ukraine, along with funding for training, maintenance, and sustainability.

The US Department of Defense said: “The United States has so far committed more than $18.9 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden administration.”

It emphasized that it continues to work with Ukraine to meet immediate and long-term security assistance needs.
