Baghdad: The Presidencies affirmed on Monday their support for the government’s efforts in implementing its ministerial program and priorities. PM Ali Al-Zaidi attended a meeting of the Presidencies this evening, Monday, alongside President of the Republic Nizar Amidi, Speaker of the Parliament Haybet Al-Halbousi, and President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zidan, according to a statement from the PM Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the meeting reviewed the overall situation in the country and discussed regional developments, affirming support for the government’s efforts to implement its Government Program and priorities. This initiative aims to meet citizens’ needs and improve living conditions and public services, strengthen security and stability across the nation, and enhance the performance of state institutions.
They also deliberated on ways to strengthen the country’s economic situation and address ongoing challenges, particularly focusing on the decline in state revenues due to regional conflicts and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting underscored the necessity to diversify sources of national income, boost non-oil revenues, and improve financial management to fortify the Iraqi economy against crises.
The Presidencies reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all arms remain under state authority as a fundamental pillar for consolidating state authority and the rule of law, especially following the start of the withdrawal of Global Coalition forces from Iraq. The development of the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces across all formations was highlighted as vital to enabling them to fulfill their duties in protecting the country and ensuring the security of its citizens.
The meeting also stressed the importance of continuing to combat administrative and financial corruption, enhancing measures to protect public funds, and holding accountable those involved in corruption cases through legal avenues. Discussions included the government-proposed Funds Recovery Bill and the necessity to proceed with measures to recover public funds, strengthening the integrity and anti-corruption framework.
The Presidencies emphasized the importance of strengthening the legislative and oversight role of Parliament and expediting the passage of priority bills, particularly those directly affecting citizens’ living conditions and service needs, to support reform efforts and improve state institutions’ performance. They highlighted the need for continued cooperation and coordination among the Presidencies and various state institutions to complete the Cabinet formation swiftly, thereby strengthening government operations and enabling comprehensive responsibility fulfillment, Government Program implementation, and national priority realization.
Regarding regional developments, the Presidencies highlighted the importance of working toward resolving regional crises and reducing tensions, supporting dialogue and diplomacy, and advocating for peaceful dispute resolution. They reiterated Iraq’s stance against using its territory for launching attacks against any party or as a base for hostile acts, reaffirming their rejection of attempts to turn Iraq into a battleground for regional or international conflicts, thereby safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty, security, and stability and protecting its people from surrounding crises’ impacts.
