The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the importance of holding conferences that discuss measures to enhance cooperation and communication with neighboring countries and find solutions to the water crisis that many countries in the region are suffering from.

A presidential statement stated: ‘The President met today with the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hani Suwailem, who conveyed to the President the greetings of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in the presence of the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah.’

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Republic welcomed Minister Suwailem, sending his greetings to President Sisi and his wishes to the Egyptian people for continued progress and prosperity, noting the depth of the relations between Iraq and Egypt and the extent of their solidity at the political, security, economic and cultural levels.

The President of the Republic touched on the risks facing hu
manity as a result of climate change, desertification, and water scarcity, and the extent of their negative impacts on the environment, life, and economic growth in the world as a whole. The president stressed the necessity of expanding the horizons of joint cooperation and exchanging expertise and experiences between the two brotherly countries to confront the challenges in this field and their impact on the agricultural reality.

During the meeting, the objectives of the Fourth Baghdad International Water Conference, currently held in the capital, Baghdad, and the participation of the Arab Republic of Egypt in its activities were discussed, as the President of the Republic pointed out the similarity of challenges facing the water sectors in Egypt and Iraq, which requires cooperation to improve the water management process, as well as continued visits, adopting modern irrigation methods, developing water facilities and rehabilitating them with environmentally friendly materials.

The President stressed the i

In turn, Suwailem stressed the depth of relations between the two countries and the constant desire for effective communication and development of bilateral cooperation, stressing the Arab Republic of Egypt’s keenness to create common interests and achieve mutual benefit with Iraq in a way that serves the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for growth and prosperity.

He also reviewed the latest developments in the water situation in Egypt, pointing to the difficulties facing the water sector in Egypt and Iraq as they are downstream countries, in addition to the limited water resources and population increase, which requires bilateral coordination and the exchange of experiences in the fields of modern irrigation and the construction of dams.
