The US State Department advises its citizens not to travel to Iraq and northern Syria

Baghdad The US State Department advised its citizens not to travel to Iraq and northern Syria due to a possible military action by Turkey in those areas, which may take place in the coming days.

The US Consulate General in Erbil said in a statement on Friday evening that it is monitoring reliable and open-source reports of possible Turkish military action in northern Syria and northern Iraq in the coming days.

It reported that the US government continues to advise its citizens to avoid these areas.

In the context, it called for avoiding border areas, being careful if there are large gatherings or protests, and monitoring local media for updates.

It indicated that the travel guidelines issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Iraq have not changed and are still at Level 4, and the guidelines provide for avoiding travel due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and the limited ability of the Iraq Mission to provide support to US citizens.
