The US Treasury praises the measures of the Central Bank of Iraq in combating money laundering

Baghdad The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mustafa Ghaleb Mokhif, affirmed his commitment to all international laws and instructions in the file of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, while the US Treasury Department praised these measures.

The central bank said in a statement, that Mokhif received, today, Sunday, Jesse Baker, Assistant Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Crimes, and his accompanying delegation.

The statement added that during the meeting, bilateral cooperation between the two institutions was discussed, and the application of international standards in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and the Central Bank’s commitment to them, in addition to the application of due diligence by other government institutions in this file, referring to efforts to enhance financial inclusion and keep pace with the banking sector for global developments.

The head of the Central Bank of Iraq confirmed that the bank is committed to all international laws and instructions, in the file of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and was able to transfer Iraq from the status of enhanced follow-up to the regular follow-up in the Financial Action Institution “FATF”, in addition to its removal from the European Union list of high countries Risks.

On the other hand, the US Treasury delegation praised the measures implemented by the Central Bank in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, by using the latest systems in this file, according to what was stated in the statement.
