Trabzon: German coach Thomas Reiss has arrived in the Turkish city of Trabzon to finalize his contract with Trabzonspor as the head coach of the first football team. Reiss is set to succeed Turkish coach Fatih Teke, who vacated his position at the start of September.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Reiss, aged 52, was warmly received at Trabzon Airport after arriving from Bulgaria on a private plane. A number of Trabzonspor fans gathered to welcome the new coach, expressing their optimism about Reiss’s potential to steer the team towards success in the forthcoming period.

Reiss began his coaching career at German club VfL Bochum in 2019 and remained there until 2022. He then took over at Schalke for one season before moving to the Turkish Super League with Samsunspor. His tenure at Samsunspor, from July 2024 to February 2026, included leading the team in 72 matches across all competitions, achieving 33 wins, 18 draws, and 21 losses.

During the 2024-2025 season, Reiss led Samsunspor to a notable third-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig, securing their qualification for the UEFA Europa League. His most recent coaching role was with Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad, where this season he managed 11 official matches, securing 7 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss.

Currently, Trabzonspor sits ninth in the Turkish Super Lig with 7 points from 5 matches, having recorded 2 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. Despite making several high-profile signings this summer, most notably Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the team exited the UEFA Europa League after losing to Hungarian side Ferencv¡ros in both legs. The team is now focusing on improving their results in the Turkish league under Reiss’s anticipated leadership.
