India: At least 14 people have died and more than 11,000 have been evacuated after torrential rains and flash floods swept through southern India, with intensive search and rescue operations continuing. Emergency teams in the states of Kerala and Karnataka are working to shelter those affected in 316 camps and reopen blocked roads, while warnings of continued severe weather in the coming hours remain in effect.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this comes as part of the monsoon flooding crisis affecting several regions of India. Kerala has historically suffered devastating floods caused by heavy monsoon rains and landslides in mountainous areas, a pattern that is repeating itself this year, coinciding with parallel flooding in other states such as Assam and Gujarat. This is placing constant pressure on infrastructure and disaster management systems to prevent a repeat of the losses of previous years.

The state's disaster management authority said that strong winds and moderate rainfall are likely in some areas of the state today. Heavy rains also forced a number of schools across the state to close.
