Moscow: The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences issued a warning today, Friday, of an expected deterioration in geomagnetic conditions on Earth starting on September 13 and 14. According to National Iraqi News Agency, experts stated that there is a strong possibility of second- and third-level geomagnetic storms on a five-degree scale, attributing the cause to the appearance of a large and unusual equatorial coronal hole on the visible side of the Sun, located directly in the plane of the planets' rotation. They explained that this coronal hole reached the center of the visible solar disk yesterday as a result of the Sun's rotation, meaning that high-speed solar wind streams, which originate at the edges of these holes, have begun to head toward Earth and are expected to reach its orbit within approximately 72 hours. They noted that geomagnetic activity this September was unusual, with three global magnetic storms recorded in the first ten days of t he month (September 2, 6, and 10), while only one storm was recorded throughout August (on the night of August 9). Scientists noted that this noticeable increase may be an indication that the sun is gradually returning to the peak of its activity cycle. However, they cautioned that the signals remain contradictory. Despite the increase in solar wind speed, the number of flares has decreased significantly in recent days, which may indicate a temporary hiatus rather than a long-term change in the overall pattern.
