Trabzon: Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah scored his third goal in the Turkish Super Lig, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his team Trabzonspor from suffering their first defeat, a 2-1 loss to hosts Amedspor in the third round.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Salah opened the scoring after a counter-attack and a decisive pass from Albanian Ernest Mutchi, which put him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. This marked his third goal of the tournament, following a brace against Basaksehir.

However, the goal from the Pharaohs’ captain, who chose Turkey as his destination after Liverpool, wasn’t enough to avoid defeat after goals from Nigerians Yara Sur and substitute Gift Orban. Sur scored during stoppage time in the first half, while Orban sealed the victory for Amedspor in the 90th minute.

Trabzonspor, who failed to qualify for the Europa League group stage after losing both legs to Hungarian Ferencv¡ros in the play-offs, remains on four points in the league. Despite their efforts, the team struggled to capitalize on their early lead and succumbed to the pressure from the determined hosts.

After playing in Egypt, Switzerland, Italy, and England, Salah is experiencing his fifth different domestic league in his career. Known for his prolific goal-scoring ability, Salah scored 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

However, his last season with the Reds was not up to his usual standards, although this did not diminish his immense popularity at Anfield. Fans continue to support the forward as he embarks on this new chapter in the Turkish league.

Trabzonspor, last crowned Turkish league champions in 2022, is considered the only club from the Anatolian region capable of challenging Istanbul’s three giants: Galatasaray, Fenerbah§e, and Besiktas. The team will look to bounce back in the coming fixtures as they aim to compete among Turkey’s top clubs.
