Baghdad: The General Traffic Directorate has issued a set of guidelines for vehicle drivers aimed at reducing the risk of fires amidst rising temperatures.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the guidelines were released in a press statement under the supervision of Hussein Al-Awadi, the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior. The Director of the General Traffic Directorate, Lieutenant General Uday Samir Al-Hassani, emphasized the importance of these recommendations for the safety of drivers and road users during the summer season.

The guidelines recommend ensuring that vehicles meet safety and durability standards, and conducting regular inspections and maintenance. Drivers are advised not to leave perfumes, gas canisters, lighters, batteries, or any flammable materials inside vehicles, especially when exposed to direct sunlight. The statement also stressed the importance of having a working fire extinguisher installed inside the vehicle in an easily accessible location.

Additional recommendations include checking tire safety and proper air pressure to prevent blowouts due to high temperatures, refueling only at authorized stations, and avoiding purchasing fuel from street vendors. Monitoring coolant and engine oil levels is also advised to maintain vehicle efficiency and prevent engine overheating.

The statement concluded by highlighting that adherence to these guidelines will contribute to reducing accidents and fires, ensuring the safety of all road users.
