Tragedy in Islamabad: 14 Infants Die in a Hospital Nursery Fire

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Geo TV reported on Wednesday that at least 14 infants died in a fire that broke out in a nursery at a hospital in the capital.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, local rescue and police sources said the fire started Wednesday morning in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the obstetrics and gynecology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad. Initial investigations suggest the cause was a compressor explosion in an air conditioning unit within the department, which led to the sudden outbreak of the fire.

The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 14 newborn babies who were receiving care in the NICU. Fire and rescue teams are continuing their operations to fully control the situation within the hospital.
