Trkiye Joins Elite Group of Nations Producing Infrared Detectors

Ankara: Turkish company ASELSAN has unveiled a family of infrared detectors developed for use in the defense industry, making Turkey one of the few countries producing such equipment. In a post on the Turkish platform "InSocial" on Tuesday, the company detailed the detector technologies it developed for strategic systems. The infrared detectors are designed in various configurations to meet diverse operational needs.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the post showcased the electro-optical detector technologies used in several domestic systems, including the Yamgoz 200 surveillance system integrated into the Altay main battle tank and the Tuygun system used in the Bayraktar Kizilalma combat drone. The developed system includes a family of both cooled and uncooled infrared detectors.

These domestically produced detectors aim to enhance the night vision capabilities of Turkish platforms and their ability to operate in adverse weather conditions, in addition to improving target detection efficiency. These detectors are used in numerous platforms, including reconnaissance and surveillance systems, missile guidance systems, targeting systems, drones, and the electro-optical systems of the Turkish "Kan" fighter jet.

Infrared detectors are essential components of high-performance military systems and can also be used in civilian applications. This technology gives possessing nations a strategic advantage in detecting threats day and night, especially in challenging atmospheric conditions such as dust, smoke, and fog.

It is worth noting that ASELSAN was founded in 1975 in response to the arms embargo imposed on Turkey following the "Peace Operation" military operation launched by Turkey to defend Turkish Cypriots. For over half a century, the company has played a vital role in meeting the needs of the domestic defense industry.
