Trump Announces Plan to Remove Syria from Terrorism Sponsor List

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. This decision follows a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, where Trump highlighted the impact of lifting sanctions on Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump stated, “We lifted the sanctions on Syria, and our decision has given the country a tremendous boost. I will remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.” This move is seen as a significant shift in US foreign policy toward Syria, aiming to encourage stability in the region.

In addition, Trump mentioned that “Syria is now truly stable and can help confront Hezbollah in Lebanon, if it so desires,” suggesting potential regional collaborations against shared threats. The announcement marks a notable change in the US-Syria relationship, with implications for both countries’ roles in Middle Eastern geopolitics.
