Washington: US President Donald Trump has mandated the construction of ten new nuclear reactors within the United States by 2030, alongside the expansion of existing nuclear power facilities. This initiative aims to bolster the nation's nuclear energy capacity significantly over the next decade.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump emphasized the importance of the Department of Energy collaborating closely with the nuclear energy sector to achieve these goals. The directive includes facilitating the expansion of current nuclear reactor capacity by an additional 5 gigawatts and ensuring that a total of ten new large reactors are under construction by the target year.

The Secretary of Energy has been tasked with providing the necessary resources to restart decommissioned nuclear power plants, enhance the output of operating facilities, and resume construction on projects that have been previously halted. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the United States' nuclear energy infrastructure.

On Friday, Trump enacted a series of executive orders designed to expedite nuclear energy development. These orders aim to reduce regulatory hurdles for new reactors, streamline complex regulatory processes, and enhance cooperation between the nuclear industry and the Department of Defense.
